Abstract

In this session we will explore WISDOM, an open source framework that empowers communities to self-determine the value of contributions and reward contributors directly, thus incentivising engagement. We’ll replicate and adapt the WISDOM prototype for the CoSin community, using it to review contributions to the CoSin conference itself. We’ll open the session with a round of introductions to meet everyone. I’ll give a brief introduction to the framework and answer any questions that arise. Next, we’ll create a list of CoSin contributions by inviting everyone to nominate diverse contributions, including but not limited to talks, workshops, admin, catering etc. We’ll use a collaborative process to create a set of dimensions on which to rate those contributions, before entering that data into the prototype. We’ll close with a round of reflections on the process and outline next steps for anyone interested in helping to finalise the prototype for open review by the entire CoSin community.

Description

This workshop will be a collaborative and inclusive process, where everyone has an opportunity to be heard and express what is important to them. The workshop will take the following format:

Introduction (10 mins) – We’ll open up the space with a round of introductions to learn about everyone’s interests and backgrounds. I’ll give a lightning introduction to the framework, outline our session plan and give a live demo of the WISDOM prototype. I’ll leave time for questions, but endeavour to maintain focus on the task at hand.

Contribution nominations (20 minutes) – Next, we’ll co-create a list of CoSin contributions for review. I’ll invite a round in which everyone can nominate one contribution to the conference that they would like to see acknowledged. These nominations can be diverse, including but not limited to talks, workshops, registration fees, catering, administration tasks and other contributions that might not normally be recognised or even noticed. We’ll reflect on these nominations, identifying any gaps that have arisen and interesting edge cases.

Dimension selection (20 mins): We’ll then work together to create a list of dimensions on which to rate the contributions. Everyone will have an opportunity to suggest one value (e.g., ‘Gratitude’) and related question (e.g., “Which contribution are you most grateful for) to be used in our pairwise comparison review protocol. We’ll reflect on these nominations, then vote for the dimensions to be included in the WISDOM prototype.

Close (10 mins): We’ll close the session with a round of reflections on the process and highlight any limitations or learnings. I’ll give an overview of next steps and invite anyone interested to join me in finalising the prototype, in preparation for open review by the broader CoSin community.
